Let's Talk About Souls

Recently, a long-time friend of mine loaned me a
book to read. This book is by a man named James
Van Braagh, who claims to be a "medium" and says
that he can communicate with the dead.

Besides being one of the most ridiculous scams I
have ever heard of, this book brings up a subject
I have thought a about over the years: souls, or
spirits if you prefer.

For starters, What is a soul or spirit? I have
no idea. Do you have a soul while you are
alive? Or does a soul appear only after you
die? If a soul exists separate and apart from
your physical body, can your soul inhabit another
body? Did your soul exist somewhere before you
were born on this planet?

How about people who have schizophrenia? Which
of their personalities has the "soul"? Or do
they all?

How long do souls exist? Forever? Since the
earth is a few billion years old, did souls come
into being when the earth came into being? Will
souls cease to exist after the earth is no longer
around?

These are the types of questions that go through
my mind when I consider these types of topics.
Are a soul and a spirit the same thing? Can
there be good spirits and evil spirits? If there
are evil spirits, where do they come from? If a
woman miscarries, does that fetus have a soul?
And what happens to that soul, if one existed?

I am sure I do not have answers to these
questions. And I am sure someone who claims to
be able to communicate with the dead does not
have the answer either.

I am pretty sure that when your human body dies,
you are just gone.

Period.

Just think: only four more days left of summer.
That is, unless you live in the Southern
Hemisphere, then it is only four days until the
start of Spring. Makes a difference, huh?
