I have actually read more books than I have listed here. It's just that I have been a lazy bastard and have not posted them. So, I will catch up with the last two I have read.
Surviving Your Doctors - Richard S. Klein, M.D. - I thought I knew a lot about how to survive within the medical care community that we have in the United States. Turns out I was wrong. There are many excellent suggestions in this book; things that made me think. For instance, I have now created a spreadsheet with all the medications that I take and have taken this year. I even include over-the-counter medications, vitamins and supplements. Each time I see a new doctor, it is my intention to give them a copy of this information. If you have to go to the hospital for surgery, how does that hospital rate, compared to others? This book tells you how to find out. I like this book so much that I have purchased a copy. It could help save your life. How much is that worth?
Storms of My Grandchildren - James Hansen, Ph.d.- I consider myself to be a fairly intelligent person when it comes to global warming and climate change. When I was in the US Air Force I was a weather observer, and was taught and consequently learned about the weather, climate and climactic patterns. But this book taught me one hell of a lot. It also scared the crap out of me. Why? Because if we as humanity do not take some sort of action very soon (within the next 50 years or so), it will be too late to stop runaway global warming. Once a certain "tipping point" is reached, the climate will continue to change and there will be nothing that we as humans can do about it. Don't believe me? Read the book. The book contains lots of data and charts and 'facts and figures', which made me have to re-read certain pages. But it was well worth the effort. A must read. Please. For the sake of future generations.
October - 2009
Eiffel's Tower and the World's Fair - Jill Jonnes - I have been to the Eiffel Tower many times, and never knew the complete history of this structure. Now that I have read this book I am even more impressed with what Mr. Eiffel accomplished. Give this a read and check out the photos. An amazing glimpse into some fairly recent history.
